Baken Medical

Hearing is not volume. It is timing.

Baken builds cochlear implants in Nijmegen. We work on the millisecond, not the decibel — because the difference between noise and a sentence is when the signal arrives, not how loud it is.

The problem, drawn

One voice. A room full of them.

The dotted trace is what a conventional implant delivers in a busy café. The solid one is what Baken delivers from the same microphone. Same hardware budget, different decision about what to throw away.

How it is fitted

  1. 01

    A scan, not a guess

Every cochlea is a different spiral. We print the electrode array to the CT of the ear it is going into, so contacts sit where that patient’s frequencies actually live.

  2. 02

    Six hours, one theatre visit

The array, the magnet and the fitting jig ship as one sterile set. Surgeons who have done four of ours no longer need us in the room.

  3. 03

    Tuning that continues at home

The processor re-fits itself over eight weeks against the patient’s own listening, then stops. No monthly clinic visits, no app to remember.

“She heard her own name from across the kitchen. That is the whole trial result, for us.”
