Drained peat is the country's quietest chimney
Dutch peat soils release roughly as much CO₂ as two million cars, and almost none of it is measured at the parcel where it happens. Veenwaarde measures it — per plot, per month, with the error bars printed next to the number.

Four layers, one number per parcel
Anyone can sell a satellite estimate. The reason ours survives an audit is that a physical instrument in the field disagrees with it whenever it drifts.
Water table, hourly
A logger per 40 ha, 90 cm down. Peat emissions track the summer water table more tightly than they track anything a satellite can see.
Eddy covariance towers
Nine towers across the four polders give the ground truth every model is calibrated against. We run them ourselves; we do not rent the numbers.
Sentinel-2 and radar
Optical for vegetation, radar for moisture through cloud. Satellites extend the towers across 9 400 ha — they do not replace them.
The model, published
Open code, versioned, with the residuals against tower data in the repository. If our numbers are wrong, you can be the one to show it.

Every issued certificate carries its uncertainty and its revision history. Three parcels were reclassified downward in 2025 after tower data contradicted the model; the credits were withdrawn and the buyers refunded. That record is public.
